We are happy to announce that our web version is being upgraded including the following major upgrades and several minor improvements:
New UI design - enjoy the new professional look
Chat Component - our new npm component makes it even easier to integrate the core functionalities of Ethora (digital wallet coupled with chat) into new or existing apps. https://www.npmjs.com/package/@ethora/chat-component Following "eat your own dog's food" principle, we leverage this by upgrading Ethora Web code so that it utilises the Ethora Chat Component in its core instead of implementing the chat screen from scratch like it was in the previous version of Ethora Web. To remind, our client apps are open-source so you can find the old version of Ethora Web in our monorepo: https://github.com/dappros/ethora and the new version has been moved to a separate repo here: https://github.com/dappros/ethora-app-reactjs
Upgraded Settings and App management section which include both new design and additional features or improvements added for App Owners. To remind, Ethora Web is our engine that caters to both end Users and to App Owners. Users with App Owner privileges will see additional menu items and will be able to manage their App projects, API, Stats, Users, Billing etc.
Some of the new version highlights have been shared in this community forum earlier + you will find more details below.
IMPORTANT: URLS and BETA access
Please note that for a period of time (likely until January 2025), Users and App Owners of Ethora Web hosted by us will be able to use both old and new version.
The default URL for new sign ups and existing users will be switched over to the new version within next 7 days (7th - 14th November 2024). However the old version will remain accessible and Users / App Owners should be able to use any of them. Consider these as two different version of the frontend, accessing the same backend.
This is done so that the transition is seamless and gradual. In case any problems, bugs or missing features discovered in the Beta version, Users and App Owners can simply fall back to the old URL and keep interacting with their project and their community. In case there are no issues they will enjoy the upgraded design and features of the new version.
FEATURES CURRENTLY UNSUPPORTED IN THE NEW BETA VERSION
Ethora engine is very rich in features. We have made a conscious decision to focus on core functionalities in the Beta release.
This means that some advanced or experimental features of Ethora engine may be inaccessible currently. These include:
Bots are not fully tested and therefore are not fully supported by Ethora Beta version. We will review Ethora Bot framework after we make sure all core issues are covered. (Notary Bot will sync your messages into immutable ledger, Booking Bot will set up an appointment with its owner User etc, Hut Hut Bot demonstrates interaction with storing and retrieving digital assets, Questionnaire Bot demonstrates collecting information from the user via conversational interface, NFT bots, quiz, signing, translation etc)
Digital collectibles and NFTs. (NFT tokens, NFT collections, ability to mint your own NFTs, trade them or export them from L2 to L1 blockchain etc). Most of our current users use Ethora for business use cases so we have focused on porting Documents and Document related functionalities over to Beta and Chat Component versions. We will review and re-introduce digital collectibles in future updates.
Meta Navigation (experimental meta navigation which implemented a 'virtual map' of connected chat rooms which allowed the User to "travel" a "metaverse" of chat rooms / locations whereby your current presence is only limited to one room where you can interact with other users and artifacts).
Push Notifications - we are upgrading our push notifications infrastructure therefore push alerts won't be working in the meantime - please bear with us
Some functionalities around Coins - we will make sure that all Coins related features are covered, just bear with us for some time if your project uses Coins for gamification or other purposes
API KEY AND SECRET
Another important update is that we have transitioned from JWT authentication for apps to App Key + Secret mechanism. This is relevant for you in case you build your own app code using Ethora repositories (and not using our web builder) or if you need to call Ethora API from your own backend.
FURTHER DETAILS
Additionally, below I provide some sneak peaks into some changes that have been introduced.
As usual please send any questions, comments, feedback either here or through our contact form in the home page.
Enjoy the new Ethora Beta!

NEW VERSION:
In new version you will see:
the UI has been significantly improved
fixated hard-coded chat tabs have been removed
profile icon with Coins counter has been removed - since many projects either don't use Coins or don't need them in the spotlight there (N.B. Coins mechanism remains available and is fully supported in the new version - Users will be able to interact with them in Chats and Profiles as before)
responsiveness has improved including versions for wide, medium and narrow screens / windows
